A heatwave with record temperatures is predicted to hit Western Sydney and parts of NSW this week.
The ETU advises all members working in these conditions to have a heat plan for the workplace.
This should include identifying hazards, and where possible eliminating those hazards.
Where a hazard cannot be eliminated, it should be controlled. Where heat is a hazard, control measures can include:
• regular hydration with cool water
• more frequent rest breaks taken in cool places
• schedule work in the cooler parts of the day
• watch for signs of heat stress in yourself and others
If you feel unwell, stop working.
